H'SING I CH'UAN - XING YI QUAN
H'sing I Ch'uan or Xing Yi Quan is a Chinese Martial Art taught at Imperial Combat Arts school in Denver CO. H'sing I Ch'uan is a powerful, shocking and aggressive military martial art accredited to Imperial General Yue Fei, a legendary Chinese spear fighter and martial arts master. Explosive, dynamic and proven effective on the battlefields since since 1130 C.E. H'sing I fights multiple opponents in all directions. H'sing I was still being taught to Imperial officers during the Second Sino-Japanese War (WWII era) for armed and unarmed close quarters combat.
There are many styles and variations of H'sing I in the world today. Our H'sing I is comes from a direct lineage of true combat level H'sing I including fully immersive battlefield weapon mastery. Like all others our style has changed and adapted over time and today is differentiated from other styles by its title Long Mo H'sing I Ch'uan.
LONG MO H'SING I CHUAN
Long Mo H'sing I Ch'uan translates to "The Dragon Veins of Form/Intention Fighting", and has several differences from training Traditional H'sing I. The main difference is that though Long Mo H'sing I teaches all the same fundamentals of common H'sing I, it is trained with several other martial arts, and modern weapons to make Long Mo H'sing I part of a complete combat system called Imperial Wu Tang.
TRAINING H'SING I CH'UAN
All Imperial Combat Arts students begin with the study of the H'sing I as one of their entry level martial arts, however standard classes are largely influenced by the other Wu Tang arts as well as preparing students for study in the Eight Animal Styles. This results in our practitioners training much higher levels of hand toughening, leg toughening, and body conditioning than found in classic H'sing I, as well as training the Black Scorpion Ground Fighting and Combat Weaponry, including Special Forces Weapons, and Firearms.
GENERAL TOUGHENING
To prepare students for barehanded combat they start from day one with General Toughening. This beginner level toughening is itself more advance than most arts and includes body conditioning, arm and leg toughening, break-falls, kick toughening, and bare knuckled fist toughening. This intensive toughening meets the demands of true combat, far from wrapping the hands and wearing boxing gloves for sport. Enter Page> Hand Toughening
H'SING I EXERCISES
There are several traditional exercises that help develop the power, flow, and dynamic center of H'sing I for combat. These exercises teach the powerful linked body dynamics, breath control, stance work, Chi Kung (Qigong), and techniques that make the name H'sing and Wu Tang legendary in Chinese Martial Arts. Imperial Combat Arts curriculum incorporates these advanced H'sing I concepts into our intense student classes in a way that they can be used for real combat as learned.
H'SING I ANIMALS
There are some animal techniques trained in H'sing I. These techniques and modes of movement are nothing in compassion to our full Animal Styles but teach a few living energetic moves outside of the Taoist Philosophy, Study of the elements, and weapons that build most of H'sing I's fighting style. These classic animal styles are; Bear, Eagle, Snake, Tiger, Dragon, Chicken, Horse, Swallow, Sparrowhawk, Monkey, Crane, Crocodile, Flycatcher, and Turtle.
H'SING I SETS
Sets are an effective and traditional part of teaching and learning H'sing I. There are numerous explosive dynamic sets practiced in H'sing I. H'sing I sets help prepare Imperial Combat Arts students for the much more rare, advanced, and exclusive Art of Grey Cloud. Grey Cloud sets are larger and more advanced that Tai Chi, H'sing I, and Pakua sets combined. Sets and forms are the primary ways that Masters pass on ancient knowledge to the next Masters.
H'SING I DRILLS
|
Combat drills are an important part of all Imperial Combat Arts classes. Drills are used to incorporate strikes, techniques, maneuvers, etc. into the body as a second nature reflex, as is required for battle. H'sing I drills are done shadow boxing, vs partners, mitts, and bags. The intricate artwork painted on the floor of the school at Imperial Combat Arts is also designed to for students to drill extensive sets against multiple opponents in all directions.

H'SING I MATCHING
Imperial Wu Tang students develop a high level of matching ability both in the classic Wu Tang Martial Arts such as H'sing I, and the high level Art of Grey Cloud. There are no rings or pads used in this matching. Imperial Combat Arts practitioners rely instead on their control, indomitable defenses, and body toughening to match each other without causing serious injury. Wu Tang matching is done vs multiple opponents, in all directions, and in all types of real world terrain.
H'SING I WEAPON TRAINING
H'sing I was an art first used by Yue Fei's elite units who were already weapon fighters, and Yue Fei himself was a powerful man being able to draw a 400 lb bow even before adulthood. Having the strength and conditioning of weapon training is a part mastering true H'sing I. H'sing I at Imperial Combat Arts is taught with fully immersive melee weapon training. Even today melee weapons are commonplace, anyone who has the intent to kill you will most likely use a weapon. H'sing I techniques share a close relationship between the movements whether armed and unarmed. This technical overlapping in study produces greater learning efficiency.

SPECIAL FORCES WEAPONS
Our school has taught special forces weaponry since the mid 60's under C. E. Smith an Airborne Ranger / Army Ranger Green Beret Officer. These weapons are Combat Knife, Club/Baton, Firearms, and Hatchet. Grandmaster Long also taught and served during Vietnam and was an instructor in Combat Knife, Vietnam Tomahawk, Survival, Camouflage, Evasion, and hand to hand combat. These weapons are the first our students learn today and the most likely they'll face. These weapons are part of modern Long Mo H'Sing I Ch'uan.
HISTORY OF H'SING I CH'UAN
Statue of Yue Fei
|
Creation of H'sing I Ch'uan is traced to Yue Fei, the same Imperial General accredited with the creation of Eagle Claw Kung Fu. Yue Fei was known for using smaller numbers of only the best troops and trained them extensively in both these martial arts in addition to their weapon training. Yue Fei learned the Taoist and WuXing martial principles used in H'sing I and Eagle Claw from the famous Taoist Wu Tang (Wudang) Masters that lived near his home during his years of training. Both arts are clearly Taoist in origin.

IMPERIAL WU TANG CH'UAN
Long Mo H'sing I is one of the Wu Tang arts taught within Imperial Wu Tang Ch'uan. Imperial Wu Tang Ch'uan is a study of Pakua, H'sing-I, Wu Hsing, Tai Chi, The Black-Scorpion, & Grey Cloud. Every aspect of these styles are founded on fighting multiple opponents and involve the use of strikes, kicks, vital point attacks, knees, elbows, toughened legs, arms and hands, as well as evasion, blocks, and controls. These arts come from weapons masters and share the same lethal techniques by forming the body into a weapon.
