WHITE TIGER KUNG FU
白虎功夫
White Tiger is a part of Tiger Style Kung Fu training taught at Imperial Combat Arts school in Denver CO. The unique style of White Tiger Kung Fu is most noted for its use of only one arm in combat, and in legend was incorporated into our arts as a combat style for war amputees. White Tiger has since become an important part of mastering Imperial Tiger Kung Fu and trains all aspects of fighting with only one arm.

This one armed combat includes, grappling, chin na, striking, and weapons study. These specialized techniques work well if one hand is injured or busy.
WHITE TIGER TOUGHENING
White Tiger Kung Fu uses the same master level toughening already developed in its parent style of Tiger, and fights with full force fingertip strikes, clawing hits with toughened nails, and grips powerful enough to bring a man to his knees, or tear out a throat. The exception is the toughening is all performed with one arm in ways related to single armed combat. Masters at Imperial Combat Arts demonstrate the highest levels of hand toughening to meet the demands of true combat. Enter Page> Hand Toughening
WHITE TIGER EXERCISES
White Tiger Kung Fu trains some of the most difficult exercises in the animals. Even at the preliminary level these include one handed push-ups, pull-ups, and one handed rope climbing with no assisting legs. From there White Tiger trains several levels of specialized exercise to give it's practitioners incredible one armed strength for combat. White Tiger also trains dynamic ground exercises that strengthen, and teach how to move on the ground, or grapple with one arm.
WHITE TIGER SETS
Sets are a primary way Combat Martial Arts practice techniques and weapon applications that could never be used in sport, just like modern military training and practice. With one arm White Tiger engages volleys of punches and kicks which they counter with a very powerful and highly toughened arm. To train sets with a Tiger Master requires extensive arm toughening, most people would bow out after the first crossing of arms. These sets are done vs multiple opponents both standing and on the ground and include all aspects of combat.
WHITE TIGER CHIN NA & GRAPPLING
White Tigers Chin Na is a unique and high level study within Tiger Kung Fu. This study teaches unusual Chin Na techniques performed with one arm that often substitutes the ground or other body parts for the missing limb. In White Tiger there are standing throws, joint locks, controls, chokes, as well as ground-fighting and grappling techniques all done one handed. White Tiger has one handed techniques to break the arm, shoulder, and neck of an opponent, as well and chokes and strangles using one arm.
WHITE TIGER WEAPONS
White Tiger trains with full size weapons including sabers and spears. While these large melee weapons are usually assisted intermittently with a second hand, White Tiger has developed tricks and methods to compensate for their handicap. These proven techniques open up all types of unique options in a fight, and Traditional Tiger will often use these White Tiger moves to free a second hand for attacking, or to clear a path for their weapon. One handed weapon training is always important, and is also taught in our firearms courses.
WHITE TIGER MATCHING
Animal Kung Fu mastery requires a lot of matching. White Tiger Kung Fu matching is done vs multiple opponents and with only one arm. Tiger Kung Fu practitioners match each other, as well as the other Animal Styles to test their skills against all types of martial arts. Matching with the animals systems is always limited and requires a high level of control as most of the training that goes into these styles is strictly for combat. There are numerous techniques in the 8 Animal System that can only be practiced on equipment, or in battle.
ONE HANDED TRAINING
White Tiger and Eagle are the arts most famous for one handed dueling, however all styles at Imperial Combat Arts train in their higher levels with one arm. This handicapped training helps develop the highest levels of the arts. Instructors of our arts are restricted to one hand when matching with student ranks. This rule helps challenge the Instructors, many of whom already have tens of thousands of hours of practice. Additionally this helps convey to new recruits the true power of Imperial Wu Tang & The Taoist 8 Animal System.
HISTORY OF WHITE TIGER KUNG FU
Imperial Tiger Military Rank Patch
1391C.E. - 1911C.E. |
In school legend White Tiger was developed by amputee war veterans who had first trained Tiger Kung Fu, and the Battlefield weapons of the era. Limb amputation is of course very common in warfare, even to this day. Many wounds, breaks, and infections that are treated today by modern medicine, would have led to amputation in the ancient world.
In legend the training that enabled these men to still effectively engage in warfare caught the notice of physically whole Masters, who trained the style to both further their skills, as well as to teach other amputees. |
While there hasn't been a recent Master of our arts who was a single arm amputee, the curriculum from student to Master for those with one arm is still available for study, as part of normal student classes.

IMPERIAL EIGHT ANIMALS
Imperial Tiger Kung Fu is one of eight main Animal Styles taught at Imperial Combat Arts. Each of the 8 Animal Styles is a complete martial art with its own master level toughening, ground fighting, grappling, Chin Na, hand to hand, kicks, throws, and weapon mastery. The 8 Animals each energetically represent one trigram of the Bagua.
Tiger was chosen to represent Tien ☰ (Ch'ien, 乾, Qián) in the Pakua (Bagua). Tien represents Heaven, Sky, Father, Power, Force, Creative Energy, and Metal. Tien consists of three Yang Lines making Tiger Kung Fu is the most Yang, most extroverted and aggressive animal martial art taught in the Eight Taoist Animal System at Imperial Combat Arts. |
