Wolf is a vicious art with high level striking, gripping, ripping, and tearing techniques that can kill with the hand. Northern Wolf Kung Fu fights from low lunge positions that moves throughout multiple opponents, both in a straight line and in circles. This low realm running uses fast leg work and leaping, with one hand momentarily on the ground at times. From this dynamic low realm maneuvering system Wolf Kung Fu masters scissor style throws, kicks, reaps, and sweeps primarily either for breaking the leg and/or bringing opponents to the ground for Wolf's ground-fighting, strikes, and Chin Na attacks.
TRAINING WOLF KUNG FU
To master Northern Wolf Kung Fu one must develop the highest levels of hand toughening, leg toughening, and body conditioning. There are numerous challenging exercises that demand tremendous leg endurance. There are also numerous sets trained for strikes, kicks, throws, and chin na, and of course matching. Wolf also trains drills for combat, these drills make use of the usual martial arts mitts and bags, as well as traditional, and modern, custom made devices.
WOLF TOUGHENING
Wolf Kung Fu Masters at Imperial Combat Arts demonstrate the highest levels of hand toughening to meet the demands of true combat, far from wrapping the hands and wearing boxing gloves for sport. The powerful full body kicking attacks used in Wolf Kung Fu require years of toughening to master with the ability to kick through bats and bricks. Unlike a technique, bone and joint toughening takes years to master, there is no rushing it, and if done improperly the hands or legs can be permanently damaged. Enter Page> Hand Toughening
NORTHERN WOLF POSTURE
The basic Wolf posture is a combat position that is not uncommon in weapon training, or even firearms training today. This posture has been trained throughout history and the entire world for various reasons. Understanding how to fight in the low realm (between standing and the ground) is imperative in a complete combat system, or traditional weapons study. The dynamic maneuvers and attacks used in Imperial Wolf Kung Fu however are not at all common, and take this realm of combat to a much more dynamic and advanced level.
WOLF EXERCISES
Wolf exercises are grueling and difficult to learn. They demand willpower, leg strength, cardio, and leg endurance to master. For most it takes some time to get comfortable at low realm combat training, but eventually it replaces any alternative options you may have grown up with. Being able to move and fight dynamically in low realm stances opens up all types of combat applications, that transcend into all types of martial arts and weapon styles.
WOLF STYLE CHIN NA
Wolf Chin Na uses Fen Chin style Chin Na and some fast Ts'o Ku techniques primarily to open opponents up for strikes, break a joint quickly, or pin them into positions where striking can finish the opponent. Wolf Masters also develop tremendous grip and body strength from their Panther training and fight with both toughened knuckle strikes, and throat crushing grips. Wolf and Panther transition seamlessly between Chin Na and Striking often using both martial disciplines in one single technique.
HISTORY OF WOLF KUNG FU
Wolf Kung Fu has been taught in our U.S. schools since the early 1960's. Our earliest knowledge of Wolf, before its integration into the Taoist Eight Animal System, is from street gangs in Shanghai. Wolf was know as a fierce group fighting style with emphasis on weapons, intimidation, ferocity, and pack hierarchy. Photo: Guards of Old Shanghai

Shanghai was once a small agricultural village, which later during the Ch'ing Dynasty developed into one of China's principal trading ports. Through war and intimidation merchants from England, France, the USA, Germany, and other foreign powers moved into Shanghai, carving out for themselves sovereign territories where they were not subject to Chinese laws, and forced the sale of English opium.
These influences along with anti-Ch'ing sentiment caused Shanghai to become a violent city with rebels, triads, and street gangs fighting for control of territories of their own. Each group pushing to profit from the drugs, human slavery, extortion, and business rackets of the corrupt occupied city. This was the time period Wolf became a recognized martial art and integrated into our arts as a Sub-style of Panther Kung Fu.
